ELENA PICCIONE
Elena is a classical pianist, recording artist, educator and linguist. She is actively engaged in a number of activities ranging from recordings and performance to research and development, education and artistic direction.
Elena began playing the piano at the age of seven under the guidance of Prof. Stefania Tigossi and that same year she began performing both solo repertoire and chamber music.
At the age of 12, she gave her first piano recital at Piaggio Aerospace (formerly Piaggio Aero Industries). This was later to define her interest into taking classical music into a large variety of professional sectors.
She was the first pianist in the world to perform at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, London, during THE MUSIC OF COSMOS event. This unique event, created by CENTRUM - EDUCATION THROUGH MUSIC, aimed to blend Johann Sebastian Bach’s music with the existential experience of cosmic flights.
In addition to her performance, she joined cosmonaut Dumitru Prunariu as a panelist, offering insights into Bach’s philosophy of music.
With a keen awareness of social and political issues, she frequently engages in charity concerts, including a notable performance in 2023 for the International Justice Mission, advocating against human trafficking.
She graduated with a Master's Degree in Piano at the age of 18 while attending Liceo Scientifico. In between her two degrees in piano at Conservatorio di Musica “Niccolò Paganini” of Genoa and in Foreign Languages and Literatures from Bologna University, she decided to completely rework her piano technique with Prof. Giovanni Alvino, with whom she also played the complete 4 hands piano works by Mozart. She spent these years teaching, broadening her repertoire, as well as enhancing her skills and understanding of the philosophy of music.
Her extensive repertoire, covering music written over the last 300 years, includes the complete mazurkas, waltzes, nocturnes and ballades by Chopin, the complete trios, piano sonatas and 4 hands piano works by Mozart, the complete suites by Händel, the complete piano works by Mussorgsky and Satie, The Well-Tempered Clavier by J. S. Bach and little known pieces by South American, Russian and Ukrainian composers.
As an independent artist with a wide-ranging repertoire, Elena is committed to creating a recorded portfolio, for she believes the recording studio is a place where she can fully express and document her musical ideas, free from the limitations of live performance.
Elena is a dedicated educator who cultivates an international community of students. Her holistic approach to piano instruction emphasises a strong technical base while nurturing students’ imagination, critical thinking, enthusiasm for learning, and personal responsibility for growth and development.
She founded AMI - ASSOCIAZIONE MOZART ITALIA in Finale Ligure, where she served as president and artistic director. Additionally, she holds the role of director at ARAD INTERNATIONAL MASTERCLASSES.
Furthermore, she is a member of various international music organisations, including ISME - INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY FOR MUSIC EDUCATION, SEMPRE - SOCIETY FOR EDUCATION, MUSIC AND PSYCHOLOGY RESEARCH and ESCOM - EUROPEAN SOCIETY FOR THE COGNITIVE SCIENCE OF MUSIC.
Her vision is to shape public opinion in regard to how art and culture in general and classical music in particular can contribute to a better world.
Motivated by a deep interest in mental health and neurodiversity, she played for World Autism Awareness Day, using music to foster understanding and advocate for acceptance. Her dedication to these causes reflects her belief in art and empathy as transformative forces for building a more inclusive society.
She has authored numerous articles exploring the intersection of music and society, contributing to prestigious publications such as "Musical Opinion," the UK's oldest continuously published classical music journal since 1877.
She is the Executive Director of ART IN CONVERSATION and President of CENTRUM - EDUCATION THROUGH MUSIC.
